19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his initial title for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has had a challenging year, managing just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - led to him falling of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-time mentor Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's first championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt since March of 2023.

Success also signifies he has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters together, so to get a title is particularly special," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my child her name, because the first title I got when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his past six finals, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive play style and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had led observers to wonder if his ability to compete at the highest level was concluded.

But the athlete has made changes in the past month, striving to advance forward and play positively, reinforced by an improved serve.

He recovered from a break down in the first set against the challenging Moutet, securing four of the final five games to take the lead.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his initial ATP Tour title, gained dominance to create a decider.

He saved four early break points in a tight deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner earned the win with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
