Jon Ruben confessed to 17 criminal counts at the judicial center on Friday

A person who contaminated candy with tranquilliser and provided them to minors at a youth camp in the area has confessed to sexual crimes against two children aged between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was detained after eight youngsters and one adult fell ill at Stathern Lodge in July.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

Yet, he disputed one particular crime he was accused of, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.

The accused was held in detention before a further hearing on 28 November.

'Candy game'

The legal representative, handling the case, detailed Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She explained his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a youth camp which he operated.

Ruben engaged in a "sweet game" with the minors, the prosecutor explained, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to ingest treats "rapidly".

She stated to the judge Ruben had conducted this practice with the young males "over an extended period", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the following morning.

She said the defendant had been able to explain this for many years as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had concerns in recently.

Mrs Prior KC stated further: "In the summer" his family member had concerns about what was going on, justifiably.

"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."

The prosecutor stated objects including lubricant, Vaseline and medical needles were located, and his stepson alerted the law enforcement about his worries.

She stated the defendant proceeded to conduct the "treat game" with six youngsters that time - that Saturday - and they were all ill the next day.

"The police had not gone out by that time," she added.

The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.

The legal representative stated the minors were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the family member notified the authorities again.

She said the man then conducted the "treat game" in a area of five youngsters.
